The Greek physician Hippocrate’s theory of The Four Temperaments is a psychological interpretation that suggests that four bodily fluids affect human personality traits and behaviors. The temperaments are sanguine (pleasure-seeking and sociable), choleric (ambitious and leader-like), melancholic (analytical and thoughtful), and phlegmatic (relaxed and quiet). These temperaments are rooted from the bodily fluids blood, yellow bile, black bile and phlegm.
My artwork is not only based on the theory that we are all born with these personality traits, but also that they are changing every day based on physical, social, environmental and emotional interactions.
Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to block out something you heard, saw or felt because you were disturbed? Blocking out an experience is physically impossible. Everything the brain experiences is locked up in the subconscious. These are experiences I can’t explain or understand, I only can display them.
Although my creation is not only about understanding my own subconscious through artwork. I use my artwork to understand human nature and different personality traits based on the responses I get. Every time I create a piece I receive varied responses from the viewers. I find it fascinating how humans can see things so differently based on personality traits and their subconscious minds.
