This poster design translates and communicates the essence of this classical music composition by Samuel Barber. The purpose is to communicated using abstraction rather than pictorial representation with a focus on the rhythm, position and direction of the lines to create a composition that captures the experience of listening to the song, rather than using the lines to create a recognizable image. The poster is intended to capture the rhythm, movement, sound, emotional impact and overall meaning of the music.
Ideology - The lines appear in a tear drop shape to represent the emotion of the song which forces the listener to evoke a deep sadness within. At the top of the tear drop, the lines form a cohesive appearance as they sit horizontal and orderly. Further down, the lines become aggressive and chaotic as the song picks up tempo and the rhythm changes. The stripes of lines either side of the tear and aggressive background, represent 3 main sections with each emotion.
