A typographic book that combines three distinct yet cohesive pieces of text — two poems — Mannahatta
and an excerpt from a book The Death and Life of Great American Cities.
The two poems are about Manhattan and Chicago that are integral cities, each based on very specific grids and the third text talks about the visual design and arrangement of cities.
The Challenge was to come up with a visual and typographic way to present and combine these pieces of text.
The Death and Life of Great American Cities, runs in a justified column throughout the accordion book, and the Poems — Mannahatta and Chicago are arranged around it. The visual placement of the text references the arrangement and design of these gridded cities. The three typefaces are Din condensed, Regular and Didot.
