A series of 20, five layer prints with gold, silver and bronze leaf chine collé and 8 collages. This project was influenced by Jan Tschichold's advocation of the Van Der Graaf Canon which is a grid used in book design to divide a page in pleasing proportions. The text is a poem by Pablo Neruda called 'An Ode to Typography'. Through this project I wanted to explore how visual asymmetry can be achieved in a symmetrical layout and I achieved this by confining the metal leaf and the poem in the shapes formed by the grid. The collages were made using fragments of the cut up text, and the remaining prints and they explore the deconstruction of the typography.
Printed on Stonehenge white, black, steel grey and pearl grey paper. Text printed on Kitikata japanese paper and pasted on the grid. Each print is 22" by 15".
