This particualr Idenity Design Package created for MoBR stemmed from a project brief given to me through my Intermidiate Graphic Design class at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The brief required us to create a logo, a stationery suite (including a letterhead, a buisness card, and an envelope), a pictoral portrait, and, to tie it all together, a style guide. My concept behind the logo was to showcase the past and the present – what was and what is. While the hand-written type stands for what was – i.e. love, comfort, and familiarity, the geometric Gill Sans stands for what is – i.e. a beautiful piece of art confined to the four white walls of the Museum reminising on what was. The box created around the typography, although broken, creates a certain tension between the handwritten typography and the geometric Gill Sans and requires them to coexist in the same space.
The stationery suite continues to encompass the look I feel the logo posseses by playing around with the idea of a “broken” box. It also adds a new layer of meaning through the crumpled paper texture as this ideology symbolises emotion; mainly anger and remorse that comes with any broken relationship.
The pictoral portrait continues to build on the ideology of crumpled paper and basiclally embraces it to its fullest. With the poster I use bold typography as the main graphic element. The content itself has been borrowed from the idea of the Kubler Ross such that anyone who reads it, even if its just a few words, can associate those words with a failed relationship and intrigue the viewer to find out more.
The final Style Guide simply brings all the above elememts together cohesively for anyone who would like a comprehensive overview of what this organization signifies, not only through its content but also through its design.
