Cymatic Chaldni Installation

  • This is a proposed project for the Dawes Park Lagoon area in Evanston, IL, which centers around an analogy between the social and physical uses of sound and sets up an analogy with the greater problem of scientific illiteracy. The proposal includes embedded graphic panels, sensors and speakers which play sung tones that correspond to the cymatic patterns depicted, becoming progressively more complex and overlapping as one approaches the lakefront. At the entrance to the beach and the boat launch areas would be interactive tonoscopes, with corresponding sand and water patterns made live by participants by singing into the instruments.
